The Pennsylvania Military Museum preserves and honors Pennsylvania’s military history from 1747 to the present with special emphasis on the 20th century, interpreting for citizens and visitors the story of the Commonwealth’s “Citizen Soldiers”, civilian activities on the home front, and the contributions of Pennsylvania industry to military technology.

Goals

  • To create a greater understanding of the significant role Pennsylvania and her citizens have played on the world stage of military history through its collections, educational programs, and interpretive exhibits. Major themes to be presented include: 
    • The history of the site, including the story of the Boal Troop, and the 28th Infantry Division;
    • The experiences of the common soldier through 250 years of service to the Commonwealth and the Nation;
    • The significant military events that have involved Pennsylvanian’s;
    • The development of military uniforms, weapons, equipment and vehicles;
    • The development of the National Guard of Pennsylvania;
  • To serve as caretaker and custodian of the 24 memorials that make up the 28th Infantry Division Shrine.
  • To work with the Friends of the Pennsylvania Military Museum, the 28th Division, and other groups whose valued guidance and support enhance the mission and goals of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
