Then & NOW: A Military Time Line

Then & NOW: A Living History Time Line of Uniforms and Equipment

The military history time line, Then & NOW, evolved from the very first annual living history programming event, A Day of Revolutionary Fun.  The Colonial Period ranging company Cluggage’s Rangers first supported this effort with an encampment on the museum grounds that began in August of 1998.  After competing with Penn State's AG Progress Days, the Grange Fair and PSU home football games, it was decided that the first non-home game weekend would our weekend for living history.  The 2010 weekend will be 11-12 SEPTEMBER. Please scroll below to see a mix of photos from 2009 and years past.

We've had active support from the PA National Guard as seen in this 2006 photo.  Unfortunately there was no Guard presence in 2009 due to active duty operational commitments.

Hill overlooking the 20th and 21st century bivouacs in this 2006 photo.  The new arrangements for camps and bivouacs places the 18th and 19th centuries on the parade ground side of the creek and the 20th and 21st centuries on the museum side of the creek.  While the view may not be as pretty, it is much more accessible to the public.

Ed Manning shows us the proper method of using a firelock.  Deliberately aiming you weapon at another human being could be considered "murder" early in the Revolutionary War.
