They Died in France for Liberty

The history of the grounds on which the Museum rests is part of a larger story of a well financed townsman calling together a group of brave individuals to train and ready themselves for a war that had not yet came to America’s doorstep… World War I.

This is their story.

Museum & Shrine History

At the height of the Vietnam War, the idea of a military museum located in the heart of the Commonwealth came to fruition… ground was broken and doors were opened.

The USS Pennsylvania…

Named after the Commonwealth of PA, this battleship earned eight battle stars during World War II. Now, two of her main guns are on display at the Museum. This brief history of her service and return home is a great primer on her storied history.

The Monuments & Shrine

After returning from France, the 28th Division began laying monuments to fallen service members, an act that continues to this day. On the Front Parade Grounds you will find thirty Monuments and the Shrine… each with a unique story.
