Visiting & Parking

Gallery Tours are Temporarily Suspended due to Construction - See Capital Project Update Page via Website Banner

Parking is free for the Pennsylvania Military Museum. The only exception to this is during large scale events that incorporate the entirety of the Museum complex, such instances are noted when applicable on respective dates.

You can also visit the Museum utilizing accessible public transportation, via CATA [CAT-ah] Bus, which operates daily providing guests free transportation to the Museum from the surrounding county area(s).

As you enter the site by vehicle, please use caution when near intersections and paths. The entryway leads to the main parking area. Once out of the vehicle, remember to be aware of other vehicles when near intersections and use the marked crosswalks and accessible entrances.

The Museum is located approximately 100 yards from the parking lot, accessed via a paved path that traverses a bit of the Front Parade Grounds and crosses a stream via paved bridge to the entrance of the Museum – where stairs and a ramp lead to the entry doors.  There are approximately 09 stairs beside the gently rising accessible ramp to the main entryway.

Additional accessible parking spaces located adjacent to the Museum provide a closer & more immediate access point to the museum entrance.

Please note this parking has a separate vehicular entrance and is located at the side of the Museum and can be reached using 602 Boalsburg Pike as the GPS address. The lot is then to the left, located on the side of the Museum, approximately three hundred feet away from the parking area is the main entrance.  Paved paths to the front door are maintained year-round.

To get the most out of your experience, we invite you to enjoy the Pennsylvania Military Museum’s orientation film – a 10-minute open caption film presenting the Commonwealth’s military history and that of the Museum & Historic Site.

The Museum Gallery is only on the first floor and does not require the use of any stairs or elevators. From the front desk, visitors will ascend a gentle rising ramp to the gallery entrance.

The PHMC and the Pennsylvania Military Museum have partnered with the AIRA App to provide visitors with vision disabilities a way to experience the Museum using their smartphones.  AIRA connects you with an agent, and using the camera on one’s smartphone, can help with navigating the Museum, reading artifact labels, and more.  AIRA is a free app that can be downloaded on Android Play Store and the Apple Store, with the Pennsylvania Military Museum being a free AIRA access location.

All video displays that include narration have captioning enabled for our visitors with hearing disabilities.

The Museum usually has moderate to low noise levels but can be crowded at times. Please be aware that the Museum does contain wartime sounds and sights that are suitable for all ages.

When you complete the tour of the gallery you can exit through the established & marked gallery exit. You can also exit the same way that you enter the Museum if needed.

Emergency exits are marked, audible and visual alarms will announce if guests are required to exit due to emergency, and Museum staff will escort those needing assistance.

Anyone may visit the Museum Store during business hours. Unique, educational, and fun gifts are available for all ages and interests.
